Lakes Entrance is situated on the Gippsland Lakes and Ninety Mile Beach. It is 3.5 hours drive from Melbourne. It is a water-front town, which makes it a very popular all year round holiday destination, including during winter months when the climate is often a few degrees warmer than Melbourne. The main thoroughfare of the Esplanade runs along the shoreline of the Cunninghame Arm inlet, with busy marinas and attractive foreshore gardens on one side, and a good selection of shops, restaurants and accommodation options on the other side.

As a coastal town, it has a large emphasis on water activities and a high concentration of marinas and jetties along its extensive lake coastline. For one of the best views of the area, drive along the appropriately named Seaview Parade and you will be rewarded with unparalleled views over the town centre, marinas, Cunninghame Arm and down to the Ninety Mile Beach. It’s prudent to book accommodation 12 months in advance if you want to come here in Summer. We didn’t so we ended up staying in a 2 star accommodation with 5 star price. Luckily, it was only an overnight stay.

TIP: You must see the sunset whilst walking along the Esplanade.

  1. Sure nice, lovely sunset, great seafood. But Metung is a better place to stay, at least you don’t have trucks rolling through your morning coffee. The main street is still on the highway. Great B & B the Goat and the Goose.
