“Australia’s answer to the Caribbean” says Bob Oatley. Bob Oatley owns Hamilton Island…so how’s that for a sales pitch? Their ad says “Where in the world would yo rather be?” My answer? Somewhere spectacular and reasonably affordable. Let me start by saying Hamilton Island I think is over rated and is expensive. Not to say it’s not a holidaymaker’s tropical paradise. It is indeed. Hamilton Island is perfectly situated on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef amongst Queensland’s 74 Whitsunday Islands. The island offers glorious weather, turquoise waters. fine food and wines and overly priced accommodation and tour activities (I might have to sell one of my kidneys to afford one) to further see stunning beaches, awe-inspiring coral reefs and fascinating flora and fauna. However, there are far better places in Australia (or even one of the South Pacific Islands) that I would recommend you to go if you are a traveller who would prefer more value for your money. Would I go back? Absolutely! But let me sell one of my arms first.
Hamilton Island caters for a more affluent visitors who could easily afford the extra-ordinarily posh and world-class facilities and sail away to their heart’s content whilst drinking Crystal champagne and fully catered hors d”oeuvres.
TIP: Fly directly to Hamilton Island directly than going via grungy Airlie Beach. You better learn how to drive a golf cart coz that’s the only way of transport around the island.
